Antonio “Tonino” Guerra (Santarcangelo di Romagna, Italy 1920 – Santarcangelo di Romagna, Italy 2012) was an internationally renowned Italian poet, writer and screenwriter.
Divided between his writing and film career, Guerra’s prolific work received praise with numerous awards and prizes. His collection of writings included over fifty published books, short stories, and poems. Collaborating with some of the greatest directors of the time, Guerra worked with such filmmakers as Vittorio De Sica, Michelangelo Antonioni, Federico Fellini, the Taviani brothers, Mario Monicelli, and many others. Guerra wrote over 120 films, for which he collected four David di Donatello Awards, three Oscar nominations, a European Film Award for Best Screenwriter, and a Palme d’Or at Cannes.
