The 2022 International Festival “Bartolomeo Cristofori”, entitled Universi Musicali – 800 anni di Storia, 800 di Università, 800 di Musica held from September 8 to 20, 2022, is also part of the University of Padua’s schedule of events celebrating its 800th anniversary.
The Festival offers a program dedicated to the schools of Medicine, Literature, Philosophy, and Mathematics. Each concert explores the history of Padua from the foundation of its university to Giotto’s frescoes through the music of Tartini and Cristofori composed in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
The first concert in the series features the Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto and the Russian pianist Georgy Tchaidze playing some of Beethoven and Shostakovich’s greatest pieces. The Festival continues with some of the most important national and international names on the piano including Lucas Debargue, Vincenzo Maltempo, Anna Fusek, Filippo Gorini and others including Leonora Armellini, from Padua, who was awarded at the XVIII International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw.
In addition to concerts, the Festival offers its “Cristofori Talks” with round tables, conferences and study days dedicated to the theme of the Festival.
The Festival collaborates with numerous local institutions including Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, I Solisti Veneti, Amici della Musica, Castello Festival, Barco Teatro, Tartini Association, Rovigo Cello Week, and the Concentus Musicus Patavinus of the University of Padua, as well as the European Commission.
Special reduced rates are available for University of Padua students (€ 1.00 plus an additional € 0.50 box office commission).
