Francesco Zabarella. Saving the Church from Padua to Europe

Jurist, a man of the cloth and cultured intellectual, Francesco Zabarella was this and much more. It is surprising to discover that Zabarella remained unknown yet was at the centre of many historical events. His life, full of acts and works, takes place between the second half of the fourteenth century and the early years of the fifteenth century, in a very delicate and complex period.  The Church was troubled by a dramatic division with popes and antipopes fighting each other. Italy and the rest of Europe are divided into many small and large political situations of eternal conflicts. Zabarella’s contribution was certainly decisive in reaching, after forty years of struggles, a shared solution to the Great Schism but his role was equally important for the history of Padua and for its university, where he contributed for twenty years to train generations of jurist
