The concert of Fire! Orchestra is a production of the Art Center of the University of Padua and Area Sismica as part of Opera Libera, a special project for the celebrations of the eighth centenary of the University of Padua.
Fire! Orchestra is one of the most significant and influential ensembles in research jazz today. Founded in 2013 by the Swedes Mats Gustafsson, Johan Berthling and Andreas Werliin, it involved dozens of different musicians in very large ensembles and different projects, who explored jazz in all its forms.
The latest incarnation of the group – Fire! CBA orchestra (community based activity) – takes the initial idea of the project to its extreme consequences and inaugurates an unprecedented approach to the development of the repertoire and the presentation of the concerts. From centralized ensemble with variable formation, the orchestra becomes a “concept” that develops directly on the territory, in close collaboration with local associations and musicians, in order to create new networks and present a whole new music each time, which takes into account the different participants’ sensitivity and experiences.
The orchestra has written and conceived a new repertoire specifically for this occasion, in a two-day residency.
