The Aula Magna at Palazzo Bo hosts ‘Liberating T cells to cure cancer‘, the Nobel Lecture by the immunologist James Patrick Allison, Nobel laureate in Medicine 2018 for the “discovery of cancer therapy by inhibition of negative immune regulation”.
Inhibitors of lymphocyte checkpoints have revolutionized the therapy of solid and hematologic malignancies, advancing immunotherapy as the current standard of care for patients. In some cancers, like lung cancer and melanoma, immunotherapy has been successful at treating advanced, metastatic disease. Still, many patients do not respond or develop resistance to treatment over time.
The event is open to the public. Registration is required.
Online streaming is available on Youtube (url available soon).
On the same day, Jim Allison, Pam Sharma from University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and Karen Honey, Editor of the journal Cancer Immunology Research, discuss the future of cancer immunotherapy during the event “Cancer immunotherapy: present and future – an expert opinion“. This event is organized by the Istituto oncologico veneto (Iov); registration is required.
