25 November 2022 @ 16:30 - 18:30

Climate change, extreme weather events, the pandemic, a declining population, hit-and-run tourism, exploitation, and human desire to be one with nature: how have mountains changed in recent years? Which mountains? Do stereotypes influence the perspectives of those who live in the city and those who travel in the mountains? Is seeking refuge in the mountains to escape the heat of the summer mean more modernization and development?  Can mountains maintain their untouched desirability and lack of resources and services?

The I miti della montagna. Voci per andare oltre l’immagine stereotipata del mondo alpino event and theatrical performance share these and other issues by offering perspectives that move beyond images of the alpine world.  Organized as part of the 800th Anniversary Celebrations of the University of Padua, the event welcomes experts, witnesses and narrators with different ideas, skill sets, and voices on 25 November to the Botanical Garden of Padua.

With introductions by the Deputy Vice-Rector for Institutional Affairs and Planning Giancarlo Dalla Fontana, the event welcomes Alessandra Stefani (Director General of Mountain Economy and Forests MIPAAF), Giovanni Busato and Alex Barattin, (Alpine and Speleological Rescue Veneto), Andrea Borotto, Michela Belloni, Alex Pra and Maria Cristina Della Lucia (Sora ‘l Sass – Giovanni Angelini Refuge), Gianni Rigoni Stern (Forest Expert of the Asiago Plateau), Michele Pellegrini (LegaCoop Veneto), Nives Meroi (Mountaineer) and Marco Bussone (UNCEM President). Moderated by philosopher and evolutionist Prof Telmo Pievani.

The event closes with the theatrical performance of La montagna in una foglia by Matteo Melchiorre and Erica Boschiero with Sergio Marchesini.
