As part of the 800th Anniversary Celebrations, the University of Padua’s Department of Chemical Sciences offers the latest edition of the annually performed ‘I MagiChimici’ show. This year’s edition integrates and revisits those whose scientific contributions have enriched the University of Padua’s history over the past eight centuries.
Brought to life by the staff and students of the Department of Chemical Sciences, the theatrical performance demonstrations the magic of chemistry through its script, set design, and soundtrack. The light-hearted and humorous performance explains the magical wonders witnessed during the chemical reactions of scientific experimentation. Bringing the magic of chemistry to the stage for the past eight years, the Department dedicates this year’s performance to the University of Padua’s 800th Anniversary Celebrations.
Additional protagonists offer anecdotes and stories that underline the science of chemistry, demonstrated by the University’s support in the freedom of scientific research over the past 800 years, rather than its antiquated practice.
The performance is a contrast between the past and the present. Characters adorned in historical costumes express old-fashion ideas of chemistry and make themselves known through the scientific formulas that define our understanding of chemistry in a modern context.
Two one-hour performances are available at 11 am and 4 pm. Admission is free and open to an audience of all ages but is targeted towards children ages 5 to 14.
