GirovagArte, as part of the University of Padua’s schedule of cultural activities, presents “Spaghetti and Levi Civita. The mathematician who saved Einstein“, the theatrical performance produced byTeatro Boxer and the Department of Mathematics ”Tullio Levi-Civita” of the University of Padua, dedicated to the Paduan mathematician Tullio Levi Civita who contributed to Einstein’s theory.

A theatrical portrait that tells the story of the man and the work of Tullio Levi-Civita. The mathematician was born into a Jewish family in Padua and later expelled from all forms of Italian cultural life by the Fascist Regime. His collaborative work with his teacher Gregorio Ricci-Curbastro formulated the absolute differential calculus. Initially, the academic community did not understand this new mathematical theory.  His work was later applied as the basis of the mathematical structure of Einstein’s general theory of relativity.

Written by Andrea Pennacchi and Marco Gnaccolini with scientific supervision by Davide Barilari and Paola Mannucci, the performance includes music by Giorgio Gobbo and Francesca Sartore on stage.

The proposed series includes events from the 2022 GirovagArte travelling cultural fair organized by the Municipality of Padua and neighbouring councils. The fair travels aboard a truck that brings musical and theatrical performances to various neighbourhoods, squares, and parks throughout the city.

Booking is recommended.
