‘Fiori e Fulmini’ – Flowers and Lightning (by Luigi Dal Cin, illustrated by David Pintor, published by Editoriale Scienza)
While being pursued by a gang of school bullies, Elia takes refuge with his grandfather in the oldest garden of its kind in the world, the University of Padua Botanical Garden. Elia’s grandfather has worked as a gardener in this magical place, expertly caring for the plants while raising his young grandson. Elia finds himself immersed in the rhythms of nature, reminded by the joys and sorrows that follow him and his new friend Jasmine. Jasmine is a passionate young girl who loves botany but often finds herself alone due to her parents busy work schedules. Elia continues to grow and flourish as he learns the inner working of the garden and begins to embrace the estranged relationship with his father while accepting the loss of his mother. With Jasmine at his side, Elia faces his fears and confronts the arrogant bullies with the strength and courage found only in the roots of nature.
Luigi Dal Cin takes his readers through the unexpected furrows that seed the inner sanctuary of our most precious Paduan Garden, while David Pintor’s lively illustrations delight young readers and audiences of all ages.
