The University and te Municipality of Padua invite to a meeting with the renowned architect and author, Daniel Libeskind, who talks with Marina Santi, University of Padua professor in the Department of Philosophy, Sociology, Education, and Applied Psychology. The major of Padova Sergio Giordani and the pro-rector for University Buildings Carlo Pellegrino take part in the event.

The meeting is part of the schedule of celebratory events for the 800th anniversary of the University of Padua, and of third mission events of the Fisppa Department.

As one of the most important architects in contemporary deconstructivism, Libeskind won the commission for the World Trade Center Master Site Plan with his “Memory Foundations” design. Libeskind has also designed the Memoria e Luce memorial in Padua, which is dedicated to the victims of the 9/11 attacks in New York City.

Encouraging the audience to participate in an open dialogue with the architect and to create a moment of discussion on crucial issues within contemporary society. A dialogue from which the strong educational value of the memory design concept emerges.

The meeting aims to act as a bridge between the university, the community, and symbolic places within the city. Providing a personal moment for us to meet the person who has produced a monument with high historical value and undeniable political significance, the meeting offers a cosmopolitan perspective and a union between others.

The event includes a jazz performance with Jimmy Weinstein, Lilli Santon, and Alessandro Fedrigo. Infusing jazz offers an additional element that reflects upon the iconic “Starchitect” status Libeskind evokes due to the unexpected uncertainty of his work. Through improvisational elements, his designs characterize our era, guiding a political and ethical reading as a civil commitment to the paradigm of historical transformation.

Participation is free upon registration.

The meeting will be streamed on the University’s YouTube channel.

The event has been organized with the contribution of the Associazione Regionale degli Imprenditori Edili Industriali del Veneto and of the Ordine degli Architetti, P.P. e C. della Provincia di Padova, that also patronizes it.
