The event is organized in celebrations of the 800th anniversary of the University of Padua, as the Botanical Garden offers the Summertime in the Garden series of events that highlights the University’s dedication to Freedom. Libera la Natura (Free Nature) offers the public a ‘live’ viewing of the Botanical Garden and its collection, sharing secrets of the plant world from this unique location and UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Curated by the Botanical Garden of Padua, the Botanicals Tour. From Plants to Drink includes a guided tour (available in English and Italian) to discover very special plants and the botany behind turning plants into alcohol for your favorite cocktails.
Established in 1545, the Botanical Gardens of Padua helped students learn about the uses of medicinal plants but over the centuries the gardens have cultivated all types of plants from all corners of the world.
At the end of the guided tour, visitors can enjoy cocktails made from botanicals and an explanation of the production process that turns plants into alcohol thanks to the collaboration with Luxardo, a historic Venetian distillery that recently celebrated its 200th anniversary.
Tickets (10 euros each) are available online or at the Botanical Garden Ticket Office (open Tuesday to Sunday and on holidays from 10 am to 6:15 pm). Space is limited.
