On Saturday, April 9 the University of Padua continues to celebrate its 800th Anniversary with a day of special events dedicated to research in the field of children’s literature.  As part of the International Conference on New Directions in Children’s Literary Research, the day offers educators of kindergarten and primary school children ideas on Re-Framing Lives through Historical, Literary, and Interdisciplinary Approaches to Biography.

The day begins at 9:15 am in the Aula Magna of the Beato Pellegrino with a meeting on “Italian biographies for children covering 800 years of the University of Padua.  Marnie Campagnaro of the University of Padua will discuss the role of biographies in literature with her lecture Dalle biografie alla biofiction: l’attuale panorama editoriale fra albi, racconti e graphic novel. Followed by Chiara Malpezzi of the University of Padua who will discuss the biographies of the men and women of Padua in her lecture Storie di sapere libero: biografie di donne e uomini nella collana “Storie libere” dell’Università di Padova

Participants can register for one of the two guided tours of the Beato Pellegrino Library at 10:30 am and at 11:00 am, and register for the two workshops dedicated to the Storie libere book series:

  • Chi è? Strategie, narrazioni e metafore per raccontare l’identità (Who am I? Using strategies, narratives, and metaphors to express identity)
  • Il cannocchiale e la conchiglia: divergenza e meraviglia nel mondo della scienza (The telescope and the shell: deviations and wonders of science)
