The University of Padua invites its students and staff to join “Geocaching: searching for places of research“, the initiative organized in celebration of the University of Padua’s 800th Anniversary

Geocaching is an outdoor treasure hunt where participants search for various shaped, coloured, and sized containers marked by a single clue: its geographical coordinates.

Participants of all ages can enjoy geocaching teamwork that promotes engaging in physical activities and learning about specific places within our city, with a touch of healthy competition.

The event is scheduled on Monday September 26 from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm (Sala delle Edicole, palazzo del Capitanio) and is part of the Science4All initiative, that combines experiments, games, quizzes, workshops, guided tours and scientific demonstrations within everyone’s reach.
To participate, registration is required. The event is sold out.

The goal is to reach at least 800 participants within the eight scheduled events, one event for each century of our history. Organized in groups of 10, participants set off on foot, collecting points for each found container. To carry out their mission, participants use a GPS device, an ancient map of the city, and descriptions of each geocaching location. Additional clues include riddles, anecdotes and related historical curiosities of the university’s heritage. Collecting the most points in the shortest possible time, the winning teams also include those who have taken the best photos, rewarded with Unipd-branded gadgets.

The 8 events are organized by The Department of Historical, Geographical, and Antiquity Sciences, in collaboration with the Department of Geosciences.
