November 18, 2022 marks 100 years since the death of French novelist Marcel Proust.

Organised by the Collegio Universitario Gregorianum of Padua (via Marcel Proust 10) two initiatives commemorate the life of Proust.

At the entrance of the Gregorianum, a plaque embossed with a quote from the French novelist can be found as guests arrive for the first initiative on Friday, November 18 in the institute Luciano Merigliano Aula Magna lecture hall for an evening of readings from Proust and musical performances.

Quoting one of Proust’s most famous novel, In Search of Lost Times (À la recherche du temps perdu) the plaque proclaims that In reality every reader is, while he is reading, the reader of his own self (En réalité, chaque lecteur est, quand il lit, le propre lecteur de soi-même).

The second initiative, a conference organised by the Collegio Universitario Gregorianum in collaboration with Genevieve Marie Henrot Sostero and PhD student Ludovico Monaci from the Linguistic and Literary Studies Department of the University of Padua, is held from December 1 to 3. Entitled, Writing in Silence ‘In Search of Lost Times (L’écriture du silence dans “à la recherche du temps perdu” de Marcel Proust) the conference celebrates the 800th anniversary of the University of Padua.
