The 8×8: storie per 8 secoli initiative continues with a series of events on Saturday, July 2 and Saturday, July 9. The events, coordinated by Paola Dessì, Alessandra Pattanaro, Vittoria Romani and Barbara Maria Savy explore the history of the University of Padua during the sixteenth century.
Proposed by the professors and researchers of the Department of Cultural Heritage (DBC), the multidisciplinary schedule of events aims to illustrate the connection between academic and city life in celebration of the 800th Anniversary of the University of Padua.
The first day of events begins in the Sala dei Giganti of Palazzo Liviano on Saturday, July 2, with the In dialogo sul 500 conference and an introduction from the coordinators on the scheduled activities. At noon, a guided tour of the Sala dei Giganti is offered, along with a reading.
Later in the afternoon, two thematic itineraries are scheduled. The first on ‘Tiziano e il primo Cinquecento: la Scoletta e l’arca del Santo’ and second on ‘Palladio a Padova’ including a reading from Quattro Libri dell’Architettura.
The evening event take place in the Sala dei Giganti of Palazzo Liviano with a performance of Le donne nella commedia dell’arte by Luca Chiavinato, with Eleonora Fuser.
The second day begins at the Museum of Archaeological Sciences and Art at Palazzo Liviano on 9 July with Monica Salvadori and Barbara Maria Savy to discuss Marco Mantova Benavides and his Collection, followed by workshops, activities and guided tours.
Thematic itineraries are scheduled at various 16th-century buildings of the University, including the courtyards of the Bo and Palazzo Moroni, the Loggia and Odeo Cornaro (built in the 16th century for the humanist Alvise Cornaro), the Piazza della Signoria, the Palazzo Arcivescovile (with a reading by Marin Sanudo), the courtyard and the tomb of the Eremitani, and a Pilgrimage between the graves of professors and students of Padua at the Basilica del Santo.
The day concludes at Palazzo Mantova Benavides with a concert by Paola Dessì and Concentus Musicus Patavinus: “Cantiamo insieme! Musiche del repertorio dei canti di maestri e studenti.“
