ON DECEMBER 7, 9 AND 10
The University of Padua began celebrating the 200th anniversary of the publication of Jean Baptiste Joseph Fourier’s monograph Théorie Analytique de la Chaleur (1822) with the seminar “Fourier 200 years later” held by Fulvio Ricci on 27 October. The celebrations continue on December 6 with the conference “Fourier Blues: From Mathematics, through the Color of Birds, to Nanomaterials and New Technologies” by Rodolfo H. Torres, Distinguished Professor of Mathematics and Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development at the University of California, Riverside.
Torres’s conference shares how, through Fourier analysis, the coloration mechanism of the blue and green feathers of birds can be explained and how this has led to some unexpected and surprising advances in materials science and nanotechnology.
The informative conference is held in person and is open to the public. Registration is required.
